Letter from Charlotte Cowles in Farmington, Connecticut, to her brother Samuel Cowles in Boston, Massachusetts. Noah Porter, pastor the First Congregational Church in Farmington, in which he compared two types of abolitionists--immediate versus gradual emancipation. Mr. Ogden preached the next week and it was anti-abolition. The abolitionists in Farmington were not deterred and continued to distribute literature where ever they could. Simeon Hart ran a boys school in Farmington, and his students gave an exhibition of their talents including musical pieces and reading from compositions. She closed with news Cousin Chauncey having a son, and her interest in reading two anti-slavery publications that recently arrived.
