Description
View of Church Street south of the intersection with Crown Street, New Haven, prior to redevelopment. View is identified as showing the future site of the First New Haven National Bank building. Commercial buildings and storefronts can be seen. Street signs on the corner at far left read Crown Street and Church Street. Signs for businesses include (from left foreground to right background): "HOFBRAU"; "B[?]EN Bernie Shoppe", advertising tobacco, cigars and educational toys; "BACKER'S/FOR MEN WHO KNOW STYLE"; "Florsheim/shoes/HARRY'S"; and "ALLING/RUBBER". A building that seems to be in the process of demolition has what appears to be a theater marquee. Cars, trucks and a bus can be seen on the street, and pedestrians are visible on the sidewalks. One of the trucks has a sign advertising Lubin Office Furniture.
