Biographical / Historical
Sidney Dowrkin (1933-June 13, 1984) was a major figure in the Republican party of Bridgeport for much of his life. A lawyer whose practice at one point included partnership with future mayor Thomas Bucci, Dworkin often took on the role as campaign advisor or manager for Republican candidates.
One reason for his popularity among GOP members in the area was his skill as a mediator and ability to build consensus. He was a leader of the Republican Action League, (see BHC-MSS ####) as well.
He ran for Judge of Probate in 1970, a position he held until 1974. During that time, he helped educate the public about estate planning, which is one of the major areas that the position presides over.
Other positions he held include serving as a part of the Zoning Commission, and the Charter Revision commission of 1968.
In his personal life, he was a part of Congregation Rodeph Sholom. Together with his wife Irma Teresa Auerbach, they had two sons and a daughter.
